Made here, designed there: reading production claims

September 22, 2026

“Designed in” and “made in” are different descriptions. Neither should quietly stand in for the other.

A company can work across borders

Ownership and design may be based in one place, while a product is assembled elsewhere. Keep those facts separate when comparing listings.

Check the particular range

A list of European factories is useful context, but does not identify the manufacturing location of an individual item. The production overview should explain whether the available information is full, partial, unknown or not applicable.

Read the company overview

Our example Northline profile demonstrates partial production. The same overview appears inside its product badge popup, so there is one text to maintain.

Keep the distinction visible

Where product-specific information is missing, say so. Clear gaps are more useful than a reassuring symbol without a stated scope.
